Attractions

Whether you’re just passing through or spending a few days, you’ll be pleased to learn that there are plenty of things to see and do in St Arnaud. The Country Road Motel is the perfect base for exploring all the region has to offer!

Heritage

If you want to learn more about the history of St Arnaud, you might be interested to know that the town centre is home to many well-preserved historic buildings. These include the old post office, courthouse and Victoria’s oldest fire station (which now serves as a fire brigade museum). Those interested in theology will be interested in paying a visit to the Bible Museum, which is home to a collection of more than 1500 bibles, scrolls, musical instruments and related artefacts.

Wineries

Did you know that St Arnaud has quite the reputation for producing fine wines? If you don’t mind a drop or two every now and then, we definitely recommend visiting one of the local cellar doors. In particular, we recommend Kara Kara Vineyards and Berrys Bridge Winery. Many of the local restaurants and pubs will serve wines from these vineyards. If wine isn’t your thing, a visit to the Tamarama Distillery in nearby Stuart Mill could be in order.

Nature

You’ll actually find a number of attractive gardens in the St Arnaud town centre, most notably the Queen Mary Gardens, the Market Square Gardens (adjacent to the council offices), Pioneer Park and Lord Nelson Park. The latter two offer a number of sporting and recreational facilities, as well as being home to the town’s last mine (the Lord Nelson). There is also a lookout on top of Wilsons Hill, which is also honeycombed with mine shafts.

Events

The town’s two main events are the St Arnaud Festival (held each November) and the St Arnaud Show (held each year in September or October). The Festival celebrates the heritage of the area with live music, exhibitions and a market. Visitors can also enjoy concerts each night of the festival. The Show is a 2 day agricultural spectacular filled with horse events, shearing demonstrations, a mobile zoo, children’s rides and more family entertainment.

At only half an hour’s drive, visitors to the area can enjoy a number of tourist attractions, including: the Old Eucalyptus Still, Mt Korong, Kooyoora State Park, Nancy Stokes Cottage, Wedderburn Gold Battery, Coach House Gallery and Museum, Wychitella Flora and Fauna Reserve, Kangaroo Chair, the Lonely Grave, Hard Hill Tourist Reserve, and Jacka Park to name a few.
